Breaking Down

Breaking Down

The other day, I was working away on the third segment of this series when this rebutting email arrived from places unknown.  Still, it proved interesting since, well, see what you think:

Now wait just a minute, this talk's bringing me down.
'Tis life to be sure but there's smiles around.
It's a time to look forward to peace as one knows
Though cold winds may blow, windows cover with snow.
Doesn't matter the suit or the man or the child,
Of the high office tower or the girl in the wild.
What matters is something a camera can't see,
Nor often one's eyes when blinded by greed
Of things and of people and the passage of time,
Until soon reminded that nothing is thine's.
For moments pass quickly in seconds and years,
And all that's immortal is memories or fears.
Now which would you rather, the good or the bad?
The people all laughing or the people all sad?
The gold and the trinkets all burying your tears
On stairs once so easy in earlier years.
Or those with but nothing all lending a hand
To join you in sharing what little they can.
To give of themselves so others might see
That smiles and thank yous are there and are free.
Today is the day to give thanks once again
Of who's still around you, who's there in the end.
Your wife or your mother, your friend or your cat,
That someone, that no one, that this or that that.
That flower, that tree, that sunrise and moon,
That moment's reflection, what's coming and soon.
Those make this day special, for this day and more
Helps you cling to that feeling of goodness from yore.
For time marches on, far quicker than wanted
And soon you'll look back, clear conscience or haunted.
Whatever your faith, your race or your age,
Your status or knowledge, a baby or sage.
Think good thoughts today, and let them all free.
Pollute all of space with this positive debris.
If enough of us do, tomorrow and again,
This fighting may stop, this hatred may end.
So here's one more wish to put under the tree,
A world that's accepting of you and of me.

Well...here's one more thought from Smithsonian to get you back into my "downer" story...merriest of holidays to everyone, of every faith and religion, of every attitude and belief or non-belief.  It's a good day...a good day.  And if not, your job today will be to turn it around!
